Talking about Resource Mining on the Passionate Health Advocate show.

This past June, I was a guest on Denise DeShetler’s, “The Passionate Health Advocate Show.” It was so much fun and as the name of her show implies, Denise is super passionate about all things health and wellness. In this episode, Denise and I talk about how I employ “Resource Mining” in working with my clients towards transformational and meaningful change.

But what is Resource Mining? I invite you to watch the episode and find out!

Here are a few highlights from the show.

1) We all have inherent strengths and assets that we can access and metaphorically employ. Resource mining is the collaborative exploration of one’s emotional, behavioral and metaphorical assets.

2) Embrace your “Emotional Patina.” Emotional Patina refers to the unique and individual character of your emotional and experiential landscape. The most valued patina is never shiny and without flaws. In contrast, it is the imperfection and roughness that gives an object with patina is value. Same applies to your emotional patina. Those unique (and imperfect) qualities provide you with a unique problem solving and transformative pallet of resources and perspectives.

3) When faced with a challenge, look for exceptions and be mindful of, the difference that makes a difference. This concept is central to how I mine for resources with my clients. It is easy to overlook when we are successful and competent and only focus on our struggle and defecits. Reflect on your past successes and re-discover the skills and resources that you acquired, developed and employed to overcome similar problematic and challenging situations.
